The JIGSAW model was created to explore the synergy within a multi-vector energy network. It can simulate a network by joining different electricity generation and demand modules to give a technical assessment of the network in terms of energy consumption, generation, demand, losses, carbon emissions and total cost to the network. The modules can be simulated individually or as part of a network to gain micro or macro level insights. A controller or management program can be attached to the built network within the environment to test its effects on the network.
Jigsaw is most effective for testing scenarios for a network i.e. simulating a network and designing it for efficiency by trying control systems for the network, and running the model against different scenarios of technology uptake or even different technology mixes in the network.
