Credit: Steve Cornes\/Nottingham City Council<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As one of the four city pilots in the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nweurope.eu\/projects\/project-search\/cleanmobilenergy-clean-mobility-and-energy-for-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interreg NW Europe<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0CleanMobilEnergy (CME) project, Nottingham City Council has committed to converting its Eastcroft Depot ready for the needs of a zero-carbon future.<\/p>\n<p>This involves upgrading the electricity supply connection to the site making it fit for an electrified strategy and installing innovative technologies to support conversion of its operational vehicles to zero emission alternatives.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The innovative technologies include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40 bi-directional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) chargers and 40 V2G capable fleet vehicles including cars, vans, trucks, road sweepers and refuse collection vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>a battery energy storage system (BESS) using re-purposed end-of-life EV batteries providing a total circa 600 kW\/ 720 kWh of additional onsite storage capacity and flexibility, which arrived onsite last week.<\/li>\n<li>138 kW of solar photovoltaic generation.<\/li>\n<li>a range of different smart charging systems matched to the demands of the different types of vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8492\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8492\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8492 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger-1030x773.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger-1500x1125.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger-705x529.jpg 705w, https:\/\/cenexgroup.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/CME-Bi-directional-charger.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8492\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bi-directional V2G chargers in Nottingham. Credit: Steve Cornes\/Nottingham City Council<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>These systems will be controlled using intelligent energy management systems optimised to minimise carbon intensity and maximise economic value.<\/p>\n<p>The overall system is monitored and further optimised with recommendations using the RE-Move tool developed by the CME consortium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jorden van der Hoogt, Strategy and Innovation Lead<\/strong>, said: \u201cWith the increased adoption of renewable energy and electric mobility, the mismatch between supply and demand increases, straining the electricity grid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy developing an integrated Energy Management System called RE-Move, assets within the energy system are monitored and controlled where possible. CleanMobileEnergy and Nottingham City Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCenex and Cenex Nederland have supported Nottingham City Council in multiple ways for the five-year duration of the CME project on technical aspects of ultra-low emission vehicles and charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe experts working on the project have been modelling activities of energy requirements, provided technical support to procurement activities of the V2G and BESS systems, and conducted data analysis and reporting activities of the benefits that the scheme will yield for the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to see the impact of these technologies and hope to see more councils install similar systems in the
