AeroSolfd third General Assembly took place in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, 27th October 2023 – The AeroSolfd project, co-funded by the European Union, recently convened its General Assembly in Lisbon, bringing together 17 partners from eight European countries. The assembly, hosted by the Metropolitano de Lisboa from the 25th to the 27th of October, addressed the project’s progress, specifically focusing on each work package’s advancements.

AeroSolfd, co-funded by the European Union, aims to introduce market-ready retrofit solutions to immediately decrease the detrimental health and environmental effects caused by transport-related emissions. The assembly affirmed that the filters designed for closed environments, such as metro stations, are ready for implementation, a significant milestone towards achieving the project’s objectives.

The retrofit filter solutions will be implemented in three ways:

Tailpipe Solution: High-performance filters to replace the conventional underfloor silencers in petrol vehicles. The result? A notable reduction in Particle Number (PN) emissions, paving the way for greener urban fleets.

Brake Solution: Brake dust emissions are not to be overlooked. Thanks to the innovative passive brake dust particle filters (BDPF) buses and heavy vehicles have an environmentally conscious braking experience.

Solutions for Enclosed Spaces: Metro stations and similar closed environments often harbor harmful fine particles. Leveraging advanced tech AeroSolfd’s state-of-the-art air purifier improves the air we breathe in such spaces.

The Metropolitano de Lisboa stands as a crucial stakeholder, set to embed these filters within their metro stations (enclosed spaces). Their involvement not only highlights the importance and immediacy of the project but also the tangible steps European entities are taking to reduce emissions and mitigate environmental risks.

Cenex NL has been actively contributing by leading the Environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the filter solutions. This involvement ensures that the solutions proposed not only tackle the immediate problems but are also sustainable in the long run.

The Aerosolfd project isn’t just about immediate solutions. It places equal emphasis on policy-making, aiming to provide recommendations for quick market uptake of these retrofit technologies, and fostering a public and political consciousness about the environmental and health impact of tailpipe and brake emissions.

For a cleaner, greener, and healthier Europe, the AeroSolfd project as well as  Cenex NL remain committed to the mission.
