Vehicle-to-Grid Rollout

Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) turns electric vehicles from one-way consumers of electricity into two-way grid assets, storing energy when it’s abundant and feeding it back when it’s needed. Since 2016 this has moved from concept to real-world deployment: the first domestic V2G unit in Europe, the first industrial V2G unit in the UK, and the world’s largest domestic V2G trial.

As battery costs fall and V2G-capable vehicles become mainstream, governments, OEMs, fleet operators and grid operators are asking the same question: how do we move from pilot to programme? Getting the business model, charger standards and customer proposition right from the start determines whether V2G delivers real savings or stalls at demonstration stage.

V2G already works, in homes, in fleets, even at sea. The question left is how to scale it from pilot to programme.

Questions we help you answer

  • Which use cases and customer segments make the strongest case for V2G, domestic, fleet, or emerging sectors like marine?
  • What revenue streams and business models make V2G commercially viable for us?
  • How does V2G fit alongside smart charging and other flexibility services?
  • What are the technical and regulatory barriers to rolling out V2G at scale?
  • How do we design policy or programmes that make V2G attractive to end users?
  • How do we validate the business case before committing to full deployment?

How we help

1

Business case validation

Quantify the revenue streams, savings and cost benefits of V2G before you invest.

2

Archetype & value proposition studies

Identify which customer segments and use cases benefit most from V2G.

3

Pilot design & delivery

Design and run real-world trials and demonstrators, from domestic to fleet to marine.

4

Policy & programme design

Help governments and OEMs design policies and programmes for V2G integration.

5

Standards & interoperability

Guidance on charger standards and communication protocols for bi-directional charging.

6

Grid flexibility assessment

Model how V2G reduces network costs and supports the integration of renewable energy.
